Cat Party! Book Release Party

Philly writer Katie Haegele has been putting out the beloved Cat Party! zine series for 7 years — and now it’s turned into a book! This diverse, lively anthology, published by Microcosm Publishing, collects every issue of the zine plus brand new contributions made especially for the book. More than 50 artists contributed essays, comics, portraits, song lyrics, and photos, all about the beloved cats in their lives, and the pieces range from heartbreakingly personal to totally whimsical (and everything in between).

Come celebrate the release of this beautiful book! You’ll be able to buy your copy before it’s available in stores, get yourself some cat-themed merch (including records with original music by contributor Joe Carlough!), and hang out while enjoying our catty playlist. It’s gonna be a blast!

Zine Library Day

We're opening the space from 12:00 - 3:00 on Saturday, September 3, and we invite you to come browse the zine collection. We've also got a copy of the super cute zine-themed card game The Zine Game by Billy McCall, so we'll get that out for anyone who wants to play. We'll serve coffee and tea, too.

Message us for the address.

The EFZRR Hits the Road

On Christmas Eve of 2020 we went for a morning walk through East Falls. As we made our way up one of these steep streets, we happened upon a beautiful old metal library cart sitting on the curb, waiting for the trash collector. Score!

The cart reminded us of the industrial-teal ones from school—you'd leave your books on its shelves, and later the librarian would wheel them around and put them away. We didn't know what we'd do with it, just that we had to have it. We rolled that sucker all the way home and it made an ungodly noise the whole way, its hollow metal body booming through the quiet neighborhood with every little bump.

And now we have a plan for our lovely old cart. We're restoring it to its former glory with a paint job and a new sign, and then we'll take the EFZRR zine collection on the road!

On Sunday, September 26 from 11am — 3pm, we'll spend the afternoon at McMichael Park on Midvale Ave. in East Falls. Our cart will be filled with a selection of zines, books about zines, and comics for an interested public to browse. As always, all are welcome—just drop by any time between 11am and 3pm. We plan to pack a picnic lunch and will bring some snacks to share. We hope to see you there!

Rain date: Sunday, October 10

We're very excited to announce our next show. On Saturday, December 7, from 1-4 pm we'll be treated to a performance by seasoned storyteller and comedian Neil Bardhan, electro music by tech wizard Pam Selle, and improvisational guitar by Corey Duncan of Strange Parts and Oh! Pears (among other projects). Melba of WaxLeaf will have her gorgeous, sculptural handmade jewelry on display and for sale. And we'll be serving up delicious hard ciders by Young American Cider. Don't miss this one!

Please contact us for the address.

Hope to see you there,

Listening party & zine hangout

You know the EFZRR loves zines, but did you know that we love tapes too? Joe’s label This & That Tapes has just put out a compilation album—featuring several artists from Philadelphia—to benefit Womanly magazine, with all proceeds going to the organization. Womanly provides accessible health information to women and non-binary people through visual and literary art. It's a beautiful magazine that covers discrimination in the health care system, intergenerational concerns, and physical and sexual health and expression. For more about their mission and how you can get involved, visit their website

Come to the party on Saturday, August 31 from 1–4 p.m. to hang out, listen to music from the tape, and read zines from our collection. You can purchase a tape and a copy of the magazine at the event.

The artists featured on the album include: Interminable*, Lauren Napier, Attia Taylor, Inletts*, REMOTE/CONTROL*, ConcernedApe, MC Lars, Tall Tall Trees, little stray*, Avery Cerulean*, and Emily Bate*.

* Philly artist!

If you can't make it to the event, you can buy a tape or digital download at thisandthattapes.com

Music, Art, and Zines at the EFZRR

We here at the East Falls Zine Reading Room are very excited to announce our next show, on Saturday, August 18 from 2-5pm. This time around we'll be showcasing the stunning visual art of illustrator Caitlin Peck. She'll be the first artist to have a residency in The Monstrosity, a weird, old piece of furniture that is actually pretty lovely. If you'd like to have your work featured in The Monstrosity during a future show, please get in touch with us.

The writer and artist Ariadna Gonzalez will be visiting from Bethlehem, PA to give a reading from her beautiful, moving zines.

We'll also be featuring two music acts: The tight and stylish Philly post-punk band The Stammer and Gravey Train, a moon-themed folk duo featuring EFZRR's own Joe Carlough.

The EFZRR is a house venue located in the East Falls section of Philadelphia. Email joecarlough@gmail.com for the address. You can catch the Norristown train to the East Falls Station, which is just around the corner from us, or take the #61, K, or R bus here. Parking on our street is free all day on Saturdays.

Feel free to bring a friend or two with you, and to share the attached flyer with people.
