This September Joe & Katie are the artists in residence at Skriðuklaustur in East Iceland, a historic site on the ruins of a 16th-century monastery. We’re staying in The Writer's House, which was built in 1939 by the celebrated Icelandic writer Gunnar Gunnarsson, and it’s every bit as lovely and cozy as it sounds.
Over the last week we have spent long days walking the woods of Hallormsstaðaskógur, rockhounding on the shores of the river Lagarfljót, and driving through the East Iceland countryside, looking at sheep who sometimes look back at us. While doing so, we’re collecting sound samples to weave around simple ambient music and poetry we’re creating on-site.
This is a gorgeous landscape and a beautiful opportunity, and we’re so thankful to the people at Skriðuklaustur for allowing us three weeks here to focus solely on creating our own work.
